Advancing Broadband into 2015

January 5, 2015

We’re kicking off 2015 with another installment in our “Advancing Broadband” series. This series outlines recent private broadband investment news and statistics. Together these links prove there is a robust, competitive, private broadband market in the U.S.:

  • The U.S. Commerce Department recently announced that 59 percent of Americans “can buy service of at least 100Mbps download speed.”
  • US Internet Corp. is now offering 10 Gbps Internet service in Minneapolis, Minn., an announcement that means Minnesota is now home to the fastest Internet speeds in the world.
  • TDS Telecom recently announced it will provide gigabit Internet speeds in 19 new markets spanning four states.
  • Ting Fiber plans to offer gigabit Internet speeds for under $100 a month in Charlottesville, Va.

As a reminder, according to the White House, between 2009 and 2013, private sector companies invested $200 billion in wired and wireless broadband networks.
